Best IPL team ever

The all-time IPL XI

Every all-time IPL XI argument comes down to opinion. This one doesn't: it's picked from 2,420 player-seasons across 19 IPL seasons (2008–2026) using the same ratings that power the 14-0-0 game.

Each player is a single season, not a career, so this is the best version of everyone. Ratings are era-normalised, which means dominating 2009 counts as much as dominating 2026.

The XI, in batting order

A balanced T20 side: two openers, a No. 3 and No. 4, a wicketkeeper, a finisher, two all-rounders and three frontline bowlers. Every player is in a slot that suits their role, and nobody appears twice.

How this XI was picked

Each slot is filled with the highest-rated player for that position, scored the same way the game scores your draft: the player's rating multiplied by how well their role fits the slot. A keeper scores fully in the keeper slot, a specialist bowler only partly as an opener, and so on. The scarcest slots (keeper, then bowlers and all-rounders) are filled first.
